About The Platt Collections
Company History
In 1948, Barbara and Arthur Platt founded the Platt Collections with $300 that they borrowed from
Barbara’s mother. They envisioned a company that would sell a product known for its innovative designs
and superb quality. Originally, they sold only accessories, but they quickly moved into furniture, particularly
occasional
pieces. As the
years passed
the company grew, and in 1975 their son Steven joined the business. Two years later, in 1977, their
other son Larry joined the Platt management team. At that time Platt had broadened its markets and
was selling its product primarily in the western United States.
Larry and Steve inherited their parents’ passion for creating beauty and original designs, and they felt
that Platt’s product line should be increased. They wanted their customers to be able to furnish their
homes with furniture that would not only reflect the customers’ personal sense of style, but would also
allow them to create their own special environments. The Platt brothers wanted to be able to offer
unique, original, sophisticated designs incorporating distinctive materials and dramatic finishes. With that
ideal in mind, Phylliss Mann joined the company in 1984 followed by Lisa Strong in 2002. They
collaborate with Larry and Steve to help make Platt the design leader that it is today.
At the present time, Platt products are distributed throughout the
entire United States and internationally, with
showrooms on four different continents,
ranging from Australia to Europe. The
company has won numerous design awards,
and their unique, innovative products have
been featured in every major design magazine.
The tradition of design excellence and the
pursuit of perfection, begun in 1948 by
Barbara and Arthur Platt, continues into the
new millennium.
